GfK Consumer Confidence May 2026

  • The GfK Consumer Confidence Index increased two points to -23 in May.
  • Four measures improved, while one declined compared with last month.

General economic situation

  • Consumer perceptions of the general economic situation over the past 12 months improved four points to -47, one point less than a year ago.
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months increased five points to -38, five points worse than May last year.

Personal finances

  • The personal finances index for the past 12 months rose four points to -7.
  • Expectations for personal finances over the next 12 months improved two points to -2.

Major purchases

  • The Major Purchase Index fell two points to -20, which is four points lower than May last year.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure)

  • The Savings Index decreased 10 points to 22, six points lower than the same time last year.
