GfK Consumer Confidence May 2025

• The GfK Consumer Confidence Index increased by three points to -20 in May.
• All five measures were up.

General economic situation

• Consumer perceptions of the general economic situation over the past 12 months rose one point to -46, seven points lower than in May 2024.
• Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months increased four points to -33, sixteen points lower than this time last year.

Personal finances

• The personal finances index for the past 12 months improved three points to -7, up three points from May 2024.
• Expectations for personal finances over the next 12 months increased five points at +2, five points lower than this time last year.

Major purchases

• The Major Purchase Index rose three points to -16 but is ten points higher than the same month last year.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure)

• The Savings Index dropped two points to +28, one point above this time last year.
